Featured Landscape Architecture Design Projects by Atelier ARBO

Designing Human cantered landscapes Across India and Beyond

At Atelier ARBO, we are committed to develop landscape designs which are meaningful and sensitive to the environment. Our design ideology is within the intersection of ecological sensitivity, contemporary design and outdoor experiences. Our studio specialises in working on landscape design projects which allows us to explore freely and make better use of the terrain along with surrounding ecology. The designs are immersive and experiential which tries to be climatically responsive as well.

From large public parks, to children’s play spaces, to large luxury homes landscape design, our work is defined by Nature at the centre of it with special focus towards human experiences. Hence, we share some of our landscape design project sectors:

1. Residential Garden Spaces Seamless living with Nature - A large garden space for luxurious homes or weekend homes can be just the right space for us to explore as a landscape architect. The garden space can be the extension to living spaces, even the bedrooms can have there own private garden space or can be blended seamlessly with the overall plot garden. Certain features which we prefer are:

• Native and adaptive plants. They thrive well with minimal maintenance.
• Water-sensitive design. By integrating small ponds, cascading water features, etc can create a cool environment and visual calmness.
• Indoor-outdoor transitions using patios, verandahs, pergolas, and deck systems.
• Curated material palettes blending natural stone, timber, textured aggregates, and handcrafted elements.
• Low-light night scaping for safe movement and luxurious ambience.

We create gardens that evolve gracefully, offering year-round beauty while enhancing property value and the quality of living. Each residential project is custom-designed to reflect the personality of its residents—quiet, meditative, dramatic, or minimal.

2. Urban Spaces, Public Parks and Children’s Play Spaces
Designing breathing spaces for cities in India -

Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities in India are growing rapidly and per sq.ft. public space seems to be reducing further and further. With every political party claiming to develop more clean and green spaces every election, we as citizens seems to be noticing the short fall of these in the commitments. This idea may seems far fetched but as architects of the city we can help in making these publica spaces usable. It will take more than thinking about your own architectural design practice and will need to be more like a drive by an activist and an environmentalist to make a transformative change. At Atelier ARBO, we are deeply invested in designing urban landscapes that promote community engagement, environmental resilience, and aesthetic identity. Certain features which we prefer are:

• Multi-functional plazas designed for cultural events, gatherings, and leisure
• Tree-rich microclimates for thermal comfort in hot regions
• Green infrastructure systems like rain gardens, permeable paving, and bioswales
• Green infrastructure systems like rain gardens, permeable paving, etc
• Pedestrian-first circulation strategies that prioritize safety and accessibility
• Sculptural seating, public art integrations, and shaded structures

These projects become landmarks—not just visually, but socially and environmentally.

3. Campus and Institutional Landscape Environments
Landscape Design for institutional spaces, like schools, colleges, universities, R & D campuses, medical facilities require environment that support productivity, wellness and seamless movement. The spaces are large, but they do allow large congregation of people, so they need to work well at a large scale, but it is also necessary to devote and create smaller scale zones within the larger master plan to cater to human scale needs of small gatherings at different times in a day. Certain features which we prefer are:

• The outdoor space needs to allow for free thinking and outdoor learning experiences. Informal gatherings and collaborative work spaces are specifically created.
• Planning for better circulation, usability and universal accessibility is one of the most important features of our design approach
• Native trees which have large canopy over the years will always be our preferred choice. Also, plantation done in layering method works very beautifully to creating a cascading effect with different plants, colour of leaf and colour of flowers, etc.
• Climate responsive courtyards, green corridors and breakout nodes work best in large landscape projects.
• Consideration towards sustainable irrigation system and water management can help maintain the garden for a long run. The subject is vast and it needs conscious effort from us a landscape architect to design and enforce such methods and systems in 2025. (We do use climatological data and BIM as well to make better decisions)

Campuses have a way of leaving a lasting impression on students, so it is more essential for us a dedicated landscape architects to design something which will only nourish the lives of the students, but to create a sense of well being and community which will leave a lasting impression on them for years to come. This enriching experience at this stage of their life will nurture their well being for making a better tomorrow.

4. Luxury Hospitality and Resort Landscapes
Landscape design for hotels, resorts, Airbnb master plans are all about storytelling as the idea we harp essentially is to create a sense of adventure and experience which is fresh. The spaces needs to be laid out simply and allow the visitor to experience it by sequences of emotions, discovery and sensory delight. We like to work / associate with architects, hotel operators and branding teams to design and build landscapes that makes it a unique travel destination. Years of our experience in the field of landscape design and knowledge grasped from Architect Geoffrey Bawa has helped us shape our design sensibility. Certain features which we prefer are:
• Dramatic arrival experiences
• Resort -style water bodies: lagoons, reflective pools, wetland edges
• Tropical, desert, coastal or temperate plant palettes depending on site ecology
• Wildlife-friendly pathways, broad walks and ecological buffers

The experience is what we can create, but we are extremely mindful of creating them as we want every visitor to have a real experience which allows them to rewind, refresh and enjoy the space even after they have gone back to their home. We want to provide them with an experience which they cannot forget and will keep coming back for it again and again. This is also why we like to work with landscape design projects as it helps us to create sensorial spaces which can either make one feel the rhythm and tranquillity of it on its without and architect forcing them to feel a certain way. Landscape is a purely self-explorative work and the end result will always be good if human experience and observation is kept at the core centre of the design aspect.

5. Corporate and Commercial Outdoor Environment
Corporate offices usually attract large crowds of people who are involved very intensely into a particular project or assignment. More often than not, they are so engrossed and involved in the work that they do work fatigue or tiredness. In such corporate environments, we have realised that a good landscaped space / environment can work wonders to uplift the overall work and relaxation mood. Some of our design considerations which we prefer are:

• Outdoor work pods work very well, shaded seating spaces and breakout courtyards are great ideas
• Biophilic design to improve employee wellness and productivity
• Sound-mitigating green buffers
• landmark entrance forecourts designed to elevate corporate identity
• Efficient irrigation and drought-resistant planting strategies

Green spaces are great boon for workspaces and can help corporates achieve better work results from their employees. It also helps them to reduce the heat gain and improves the energy efficiency. Overall this creates a positive work environment.

At Atelier ARBO, we try to work with nature at the centre of it and not at the backdrop which is what makes our work more well adjusted to the surrounding. The design manages to balance well with our aesthetic sensibility along with technical expertise that are:
• Sustainable & regenerative
• Site – specific and culturally rooted
• Experiential and emotionally resonant
• Crafted for long-term performance.
